Hexagram 24, Fù (Return): Line 5
复卦六五 · 地雷复 · 中文版
六五:敦复,无悔。
The line (Legge)
The fifth SIX, divided, shows the noble return of its subject. There will be no ground for repentance.
Small Image commentary
'The noble return, giving no ground for repentance,' is due to (the subject of the line) striving to perfect himself in accordance with his central position.
象曰:敦复无悔,中以自考也。
In plain words
A generous, wholehearted return: no regret. The fifth line is central and can examine itself honestly and return. The Small Image says it examines itself by the middle way.
Applying it to your situation
If you want to change for real, this line suggests looking at yourself honestly. What is your most honest assessment of yourself?
Position
A broken (yin) line in the fifth place, which is a yang (odd) place, so it is not in its proper place. It holds the centre of the upper trigram. Its partner is line 2; both are yin, so they do not respond.
If this line moves
With this line moving alone, Fù changes into Hexagram 3 Zhūn (Difficulty at the Beginning). The Jiaoshi Yilin verse for this change (Chinese): 焦氏易林·复之屯.
The hexagram
Hexagram 24 Fù (Return). The Judgment: Fu indicates that there will be free course and progress (in what it denotes). (The subject of it) finds no one to distress him in his exits and entrances; friends come to him, and no error is committed . He will return and repeat his (proper) course. In seven days comes his return. There will be advantage in whatever direction movement is made.
