Hexagram 61, Zhōng Fú (Inner Truth): Line 5
中孚卦九五 · 风泽中孚 · 中文版
九五:有孚挛如,无咎。
The line (Legge)
The fifth NINE, undivided, shows its subject perfectly sincere, and linking (others) to him in closest union. There will be no error.
Small Image commentary
'He is perfectly sincere, and links others to him in closest union:' - the place (of the line) is the correct and appropriate one.
象曰:有孚挛如,位正当也。
In plain words
With good faith, closely bound together: no fault. The fifth line is central and correct in the place of honour, the ruler of the hexagram, holding the world together through good faith. The Small Image says its position is right.
Applying it to your situation
If you are at the centre of a group, this line suggests binding people together with good faith. What helps people there trust each other?
Position
A solid (yang) line in the fifth place, which is a yang (odd) place, so it is in its proper place. It holds the centre of the upper trigram. Its partner is line 2; both are yang, so they do not respond.
If this line moves
With this line moving alone, Zhōng Fú changes into Hexagram 41 Sǔn (Decrease). The Jiaoshi Yilin verse for this change (Chinese): 焦氏易林·中孚之损.
The hexagram
Hexagram 61 Zhōng Fú (Inner Truth). The Judgment: Zhong Fu (moves even) pigs and fish, and leads to good fortune. There will be advantage in crossing the great stream. There will be advantage in being firm and correct.
