Hexagram 60, Jié (Limitation): Line 2
节卦九二 · 水泽节 · 中文版
九二:不出门庭,凶。
The line (Legge)
The second NINE, undivided, shows its subject not quitting the courtyard inside his gate. There will be evil.
Small Image commentary
'He does not quit the courtyard inside his gate. There will be evil:' - he loses the time (for action) to an extreme degree.
象曰:不出门庭,失时极也。
In plain words
Not going out of the gate: misfortune. The second line is strong and central; the third and fourth lines ahead have already cleared the way, and it should go out and act, yet it holds back and misses its moment. The Small Image says it misses the time completely.
Applying it to your situation
If the opportunity has arrived and you are still hesitating, this line suggests too much restraint can also spoil things. Has what you were waiting for already come?
Position
A solid (yang) line in the second place, which is a yin (even) place, so it is not in its proper place. It holds the centre of the lower trigram. Its partner is line 5; both are yang, so they do not respond.
If this line moves
With this line moving alone, Jié changes into Hexagram 3 Zhūn (Difficulty at the Beginning). The Jiaoshi Yilin verse for this change (Chinese): 焦氏易林·节之屯.
The hexagram
Hexagram 60 Jié (Limitation). The Judgment: Jie intimates that (under its conditions) there will be progress and attainment. (But) if the regulations (which it prescribes) be severe and difficult, they cannot be permanent.
