Hexagram 55, Fēng (Abundance): Line 5

丰卦六五 · 雷火丰 · 中文版

六五:来章,有庆誉,吉。

The line (Legge)

The fifth SIX, divided, shows its subject bringing around him the men of brilliant ability. There will be occasion for congratulation and praise. There will be good fortune.

Small Image commentary

'The good fortune indicated by the fifth six, (divided),'is the congratulation (that is sure to arise).

象曰:六五之吉,有庆也。

In plain words

Bringing in men of talent: there are blessings and praise: good fortune. The fifth line is yielding in the place of honour and can draw in worthy people like the second line. The Small Image says there is cause for celebration.

Applying it to your situation

If you need good people, this line suggests seeking them out with an open mind. To whom are you willing to open your door?

Position

A broken (yin) line in the fifth place, which is a yang (odd) place, so it is not in its proper place. It holds the centre of the upper trigram. Its partner is line 2; both are yin, so they do not respond.

If this line moves

With this line moving alone, Fēng changes into Hexagram 49 Gé (Revolution). The Jiaoshi Yilin verse for this change (Chinese): 焦氏易林·丰之革.

The hexagram

Hexagram 55 Fēng (Abundance). The Judgment: Feng intimates progress and development. When a king has reached the point (which the name denotes) there is no occasion to be anxious (through fear of a change). Let him be as the sun at noon.
