Hexagram 33, Dùn (Retreat): Line 6 (top)
遁卦上九 · 天山遁 · 中文版
上九:肥遁,无不利。
The line (Legge)
The sixth NINE, undivided, shows its subject retiring in a noble way. It will be advantageous in every respect.
Small Image commentary
'He retires in a noble way, and his doing so will be advantageous in every respect:' - he who does so has no doubts about his course.
象曰:肥遁无不利,无所疑也。
In plain words
A carefree, ample retreat: nothing is unfavourable. Some read the word as "flying". The top line is outside the hexagram, with no ties within, and leaves freely. The Small Image says there is nothing to doubt.
Applying it to your situation
If you can now leave with no ties holding you, this line suggests going with a light heart. After you leave, what kind of life would you like?
Position
A solid (yang) line in the top place, which is a yin (even) place, so it is not in its proper place. Its partner is line 3; both are yang, so they do not respond.
If this line moves
With this line moving alone, Dùn changes into Hexagram 31 Xián (Influence). The Jiaoshi Yilin verse for this change (Chinese): 焦氏易林·遁之咸.
The hexagram
Hexagram 33 Dùn (Retreat). The Judgment: Dun indicates successful progress (in its circumstances). To a small extent it will (still) be advantageous to be firm and correct.
