Hexagram 32, Héng (Duration): Line 6 (top)
恒卦上六 · 雷风恒 · 中文版
上六:振恒,凶。
The line (Legge)
The topmost SIX, divided, shows its subject exciting himself to long continuance. There will be evil.
Small Image commentary
'The subject of the topmost line is exciting himself to long continuance:' - far will he be from achieving merit.
象曰:振恒在上,大无功也。
In plain words
Restless and never settling: misfortune. The top line is at the end of duration and at the top of the trigram of movement, agitated and unsettled. The Small Image says restlessness at the top achieves nothing at all.
Applying it to your situation
If you keep changing back and forth, this line suggests settling down is what gets things done. What should you stop and hold to properly now?
Position
A broken (yin) line in the top place, which is a yin (even) place, so it is in its proper place. Its partner is line 3; one is yin and the other yang, so they respond to each other.
If this line moves
With this line moving alone, Héng changes into Hexagram 50 Dǐng (The Cauldron). The Jiaoshi Yilin verse for this change (Chinese): 焦氏易林·恒之鼎.
The hexagram
Hexagram 32 Héng (Duration). The Judgment: Heng indicates successful progress and no error (in what it denotes). But the advantage will come from being firm and correct; and movement in any direction whatever will be advantageous.
