Hexagram 14, Dà Yǒu (Great Possession): Line 6 (top)
大有卦上九 · 火天大有 · 中文版
上九:自天祐之,吉无不利。
The line (Legge)
The topmost NINE, undivided, shows its subject with help accorded to him from Heaven. There will be good fortune, advantage in every respect.
Small Image commentary
'The good fortune attached to the topmost line of Da You' arises from the help of Heaven.
象曰:大有上吉,自天佑也。
In plain words
Helped from heaven: good fortune, and nothing that is not favourable. The top line stands at the height of great possession, yet it is humble and follows the fifth line. The Great Commentary quotes this line: heaven helps those who follow the way, and people help those who keep faith. The Small Image says the good fortune at the top is heaven's help.
Applying it to your situation
If everything is going smoothly, this line suggests remembering that the smoothness also comes from good faith and modesty. How can you live up to it?
Position
A solid (yang) line in the top place, which is a yin (even) place, so it is not in its proper place. Its partner is line 3; both are yang, so they do not respond.
If this line moves
With this line moving alone, Dà Yǒu changes into Hexagram 34 Dà Zhuàng (Great Power). The Jiaoshi Yilin verse for this change (Chinese): 焦氏易林·大有之大壮.
The hexagram
Hexagram 14 Dà Yǒu (Great Possession). The Judgment: Da You indicates that, (under the circumstances which it implies), there will be great progress and success.
