Hexagram 12, Pǐ (Standstill): Line 3
否卦六三 · 天地否 · 中文版
六三:包羞。
The line (Legge)
The third SIX, divided, shows its subject ashamed of the purpose folded (in his breast).
Small Image commentary
That 'his shame is folded in his breast' is owing to the inappropriateness of his position.
象曰:包羞,位不当也。
In plain words
Bearing shame. The third line is weak, neither central nor correct, at the top of the lower trigram of blockage: what it does is shameful, and it does not know it. The Small Image says its position is not proper.
Applying it to your situation
This line calls for looking at yourself. Is there something you feel is not right, yet keep doing?
Position
A broken (yin) line in the third place, which is a yang (odd) place, so it is not in its proper place. Its partner is line 6; one is yin and the other yang, so they respond to each other.
If this line moves
With this line moving alone, Pǐ changes into Hexagram 33 Dùn (Retreat). The Jiaoshi Yilin verse for this change (Chinese): 焦氏易林·否之遁.
The hexagram
Hexagram 12 Pǐ (Standstill). The Judgment: In Pi there is the want of good understanding between the (different classes of) men, and its indication is unfavourable to the firm and correct course of the superior man. We see in it the great gone and the little come.
